Nothing, really.

As per usual, there are a lot of things on my mind. As per UNusual, I have actually been doing things with my life. In fact, I've started this crazy phenomenon called Busy Day, or more accurate to my recent life, Busy Week. It's interesting. I've been spontaneous, I've planned things, I got $25 worth of groceries for free, and all of my house is clean! (If you don't count the kitchen as part of my house.) Heck, I've even given some of my shoes away.

In the area of Sean's current development, he has started walking. Not full time, but enough to show off when girls his age come over and to appease his doting parents. He has also started screaming, saying "Doh!" for "no" and throwing little tantrums. But he's also really adorable, gives kisses, snuggles when he's tired, and is good at putting his toys in baskets. We have recently found out that the only thing he doesn't like in baskets is folded laundry. And even though he's trying to phase out his morning nap, I'm making him stay in his crib so I can have a few minutes of peace.

My brother came home from a mission for our church. It's been two years during which I only talked to him once. I'm glad he's back. It's not as fun to make fun of somebody without them dishing it back out to you. My other siblings just aren't as challenging. My sister either agrees with me or just rolls her eyes while my other brother just gives me a look that says "whatever." Both reactions are lame.

I have also been really good at sticking my foot in my mouth. Like talking to a new friend about how I'm so cool because spending too much on anything makes me feel all nervous and then finding out their real monetary situation. Or just saying insensitive things in general because I'm too tired to realize that I'm talking to a very sensitive person. Or being really assertive about something that is a bit offensive to the other person.

Yeah. I'm just cool like that.

Well, that's all the words I have left in me right now. Don't worry though, I'm trying to come up with an awesome story to tell. I'm also trying to get pictures up someday.

It's In Writing

Read this and know why I really do have a genuine fear of the dentist. And why my dang epidural kept only working on half of my body.

Finally, proof that I'm not just a wimp!

Stevie

As per my aunt's request, I will now put together a short tribute to my brother Steven. He is two years, four days and 22ish hours younger than me, thinks he's the smartest person in the world (maybe excepting Stephen Hawking) and is getting home from serving a 2 year mission for our church in the desolate wilderness they call California.

Top (edited because I kept going) ELEVEN Reasons Steven is a Kool Kat:

11. He pulled/stretched his socks all the way up to his knees from the age of 2 and stopped around age 10. Yes, especially when he was wearing shorts. Yes, they were the exact same height on both legs.

10. Had a zero tolerance for bubbles in his milk until he was 5. Maybe 6. You can only imagine what my mother (and babysitting aunts) went through with this one.

9. Around the age of 2, every single time he saw a truck he would shout, over and over, "F%^&! A F^*&#!" much to the horror of those around him. The real kicker is that the more you'd try to shut him up, the louder he'd say it.

8. Refused to eat rice until he was 17.

7. Used handfuls of sculpting gel to comb his hair straight back and mostly flat against his head until 8th grade.

6. In 8th grade he discovered that his hair had a natural "curl" and proceeded to grow it out until it looked like a fuzzy cottonball on top of his head. My friend Brent called it a "white man's 'fro."

5. During high school, while he was supposed to be studying at night, he stacked his coins in perfectly straight stacks. (I would help him out and make them crooked every chance I got.)
4. Allowed me to not only spray him in the face with cleaner, but to also spit gum into his hair. I think I was three. You'd think that he would have stuck up for himself.

3. Tells other people that they're dumb and then insults them in such a way that they don't usually realize that he's insulting them.

2. Was obsessed with Beast Wars - the animal version of Transformers. Really. Obsessed.

1. He would always turn his fire-fighter hat on backwards and say it was a cowboy hat. Then he would hop on his "hoss" (bouncing plastic horse)
and then shout "whooooaaaa, WHOoooaaAAA WHOOOAAA" And pretend he was about to fall off his horse.

Can't wait until you get home Steven! It will be fun to text you while you are in church and make you feel bad for bringing your phone when it goes off in the middle of dead silence. Love you!

Today I sneezed ... and pulled a muscle. Yeah. At the same time. Who'd have thought sneezing could cause muscle pulling.

I also found a great blog. http://www.soymademegay.com/ It is honest, open, and amazing. I couldn't stop reading it. This blog is fantastic for anybody wanting insight to what one person has experienced/is experiencing as a gay Mormon. No, I did not just state an oxymoron and shame on you for thinking that. While reading it, I discovered that some things I have said and done were ignorant and naive. It's worth a read. How hard it must be to fully live your religion that is so family oriented. If you read it, start at the beginning. It's just better that way.

Sean is still not walking. I have two months and a week before I start worrying.

There And Back Again

So far summer has been a blast and filled with crazy activities.

I have approximately two cavities and one is from being negligent in flossing. I am ashamed.

My parents and sister came up for two weeks and we had lots of fun. We saw my dad's favorite cousin (mine too, :) You love me the most now, don't you Wendy), ate good Mexican, found an awesome bakery in downtown AF, had fun with the Nursery aged kids in church, and went to Strawberry Days. Mmm, those strawberries and cream stands are the best. Thank you PG for having such a wonderful basis for a town carnival/fair/rodeo.

We just got back from Knoxville, TN. I am in love. Brian grew up in a small town west of Knoxville and I just wanted to stay there forever. Yes, it's a small town, but yes, I love small towns. Plus Brian's friends, and my new friends, live there and they are amazing. I would use them to shelter myself in my romantic notion of what small town life is. Old houses, lots of Baptists, Methodists, Presbyterians and those who attend the 7 factions of The Church of Christ, nowhere to really go, hicks to make fun of, lots of green, ridiculously huge lakes and rivers - doesn't that sound fantastic? Well, it should.

While in Tennessee we saw Brian's old hometown and the Kroger and Food City and the area where the rich people live and saw the trailer parks and the lake and river that have lots of ash in it from the steam plant. Then we went east to Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge where we enjoyed a Saturday at Dollywood and downtown Gatlinburg. I had a lot of fun. I think Sean did, too - there were a lot of interesting people to look at. And lots of fiddling groups around the town. We were definitely in the Smoky Mountains. Then we went to Knoxville and spent some fun times with Brian's brother, his wife and their child. They got me liking some new games and addicted to a new book series. Aren't they so kind? :)

Sean did great on the flight there, but the flight back was awful. There was much gnashing of teeth and screaming and stuffing food in his tired mouth. When the plane landed in SLC there was much rejoicing and praising God and His mercifulness in not making the flight last forever.

And now we are here. At home. Ready to celebrate Independence Day and avoid cleaning our house. I will post pictures when I'm done avoiding things I need to do, like downloading pictures from our camera to our computer.

Sean's Birthday

He turned one! I know, I know - somehow we were able to get him to age one without killing him. Amazing, right?

Here he is eating breakfast. Such a happy birthday boy!
Later in the day with his little gap teeth. Love it!

Opening a present with Grandma G - it's a wooden truck.

Fire! I think we've already got a little fire-lover on our hands...
He was pretty excited about that candle.

Here's our little family! I think the chocolate cake was a big hit.

Overall it was a good day. He's been running a little fever and I don't know why. I thought it was a new tooth, but it's just been continuous over the past couple of days. Luckily we're going to a wellness appointment tomorrow and we can check for an ear infection or whatnot.

It's crazy that a year ago I gave birth to this guy. I'm not sure that the year has necessarily gone by faster than usual. The years went by fast before him. It just feels fast in a different way because I'm watching him grow so much in such a small span of time.

Well, I'll get up the specs tomorrow so you can see just how big this kid is getting. It's lucky that he just keeps getting cuter. Despite the biting and head-butting. You know.

Dicing

So, my most recent addiction is Farkle. It's a dice game. Probably intended for gambling. Anyway...

When you use up your ten rounds trying to beat your high score, they show you a picture that is comparable to your level of smartness. There's a couch potato, a football player, the bride of Frankenstein's monster, etc. However, this is what I got after a less productive round of virtual dice throwing:

What is that lady? I'm inclined to say a maid or a housewife. Either way, the next level up is football player.

I'm not sure what to make of this. They are insinuating that a maid or housewife a) are very well the same thing, and/or b) this figure is more incapable of men and monsters to roll high scores.

However, she does sit higher than a worm, a clown, and the couch potato. And I guess we should be grateful they put her at least that high on the aptitude scale.
